Councillors will gather at the Young Shire Council Chambers at 5pm to discuss numerous matters following their regular monthly nominations of star members in the community to receive a Community Recognition Award and reports of their civic duties.
First on the agenda are two proposals put to council by the Young Tidy Towns Committee seeking support to conduct a trial of dog waste bag dispenser stations that would be installed at a number of Young sporting grounds.
It is understood a number of avid sport ground users are fed up with treading in dog waste whenever they use the venues and have voiced their frustrations at local committee meetings.
The committee is also requesting council’s approval to conduct a ‘clean-up Young’ day on September 14, which will involve free entry into the Victoria Street and Redhill Road landfills for the public.
Councillors will then look at reviewing their LEP and consider a planning proposal for amendments.
They plan to submit it to the NSW Department of Planning and Infrastructure through an LEP Review Panel who will assess the changes.
The LEP will then go on public exhibition.
Young’s LEP began in August 2010 and one requirement ordered from the Department of Planning and Infrastructure was for local councils to conduct a review of their LEPs every five years to ensure the plan remains up to date.
“[This is] a significant one,” council’s general manager Peter Vlatko said.
“It’s an opportunity to improve our LEP. It’s about zoning, about what can and can’t happen in those zones,” he said.
Council will discuss re-leasing the Young Scout Hall to the Young Scouts and Scouts Australia (NSW), who haven’t occupied the building for the past five years.
There are also development applications for two new dwellings in Maimuru and Murringo up for discussion.
The meeting will conclude with a confidential discussion on a tender to replace the static garbage compactor at the Victoria Street Landfill.
“The compactor at the Victoria Street site has reached the end of its life… it’s 10 years old,” Mr Vlatko said.
