Golfers have been taking advantage of every possible chance to get their weekly fix of golf in whenever possible.
Preferred lies are now on through the green. That means that you can mark your ball, and place it within one card length no nearer the hole from anywhere on the fairway or in the rough.
Please remember that the position of the ball must always be marked before lifting.
Also note that previously no preferred lie applied if a tree was impeding your swing. This condition has been removed giving everyone in the rough or on the fairway a preferred lie.
The week began with the Tuesday Veteran’s Comp which went to David Grant with 15 points from Trish Miller on 12 points.
Any social or full member looking for a hit is always welcome for this nine hole stableford event.
Wednesday was still a little gloomy, however it did not deter a fairly good size field from playing in the Pro’s Comp.
Forty one players teed it up for this very popular midweek competition. Best score on the day was Robert Norton with a well compiled 41 points.
Minor places went to Wal Bronar 37 points, Ron Flynn 35 points, Adrian Hanrahan 35 points, and David Robinson on 34 points.
Balls cut out at 28 points on a countback, and the card draw ball jackpot was not won.
On Friday, there were fewer players than usual due to continuing poor weather, but there were a few hardy souls. John Barton won the event with 22 points from Neville Alchin with 19 points and Peter Doherty with 18 points.
Balls went down to 17 points.
Saturday was a single stableford event sponsored by Brian Norman and Peter Greaves as well as being the second round of the Connelly’s Office National Point Score Competition.
The Connelly’s Office National event will conclude with the third and final round this Saturday.
The raffle was to be sponsored by Appsolutely Earthmoving however this will now be transferred over to next week.

On Saturday, in very cold, wet and windy weather, victory went to Brad Robinson with 38 points, but not until he withstood a countback from runner up Peter “Zorba” Campbell also on 38 points.
Third place was also decided on a countback with Steve May on 36 points, beating Brian Page on a countback with 36 points.
Watson Toyota sponsored nearest the pins were won by James French on the seventh and Ian Page on the 17th hole.
Terry Bros Carpet Court secret birdie hole was the 10th hole.
There were no birdies recorded on the 10th hole so the prize will jackpot to next week.
Richard Mellish Insurance Services card draw was won by Ian Page.
Remember to be eligible to win any of the card draws you must play in the day’s event and be there at presentation time for the card draw.
If your name comes out and you are in the clubhouse, then you win the card draw jackpot.
The Young Social Golf Club teed off early Sunday morning with a 14 hole stableford sponsored by the Bell family.
First place went to Peter Delahunty with 33 points, from second place Bobby Brown with 27 points, while third place went to Peter Norton also on 27 points.
There were a lot of gobbles recorded during this round.
Bobby Brown on the sixth, Adam Cockburn on the eighth, Kevin Baker on the fourth and seventh, Ashley Guy on the 13th and Jim Delahunty on the ninth all recorded gobbles.
Nearest the pin went to Peter Delahunty and the Bradman’s was won by Dom Bell.
Next week will be a nine hole competition and a reminder to all that the Social Club will be making a day trip to Wagga on August 10 at a cost of $50 per Social Club Member.
The Men’s Foursomes Championships were held Sunday afternoon with 28 players teeing up on a fine and sunny afternoon.
Scratch champions are Bill Oliver and Ian Page with 75 off the stick to beat out Steve Sell and Ian Broderick on 78.
Handicap honours went to Col Miller and Steve Dewar with 70 nett on a countback from Shaun Rolfe and Cameron Jones also 70 nett. Balls went down to 72 ½.
Next week there will be a single stroke on Saturday sponsored by Dave Taylor and Darryl Brown which will also include the final round of the Connelly’s Office National Cock-o-Walk Point Score as well.
On Sunday the Young Golf Club will host the South West District Golf Association Mixed Foursomes Championships to be played over 18 holes.
