Once again the poor weather has continued to disrupt many of the scheduled golf events for this week.

The week began badly with the Tuesday veteran’s competition nine hole stableford which was once again washed out.
Wednesday was no better as the course was left the course unplayable for the midweek pro’s comp.
In spite of all the bad weather, cart use is still being permitted.
All cart users are asked to minimise the number of carts in each group to one per pair, and to drive only in the rough and stay well away from the greens. If all cart users could follow these rules, then the damage to the course will be kept to an absolute minimum.
Unfortunately the cold, wet and windy weather continued and there was no play in Friday’s nine hole stableford either. The poor weather certainly has wreaked havoc with club competitions for the last month or so.
The final of the SWDGA scratch pennants was played on Saturday at Harden, where our boys went up against Cootamundra.
In a closely fought contest, Cootamundra reigned supreme with a three matches to two win over Young.
James French and Steve Sell won their matches, however it was not enough to get Young home.
Reflecting just how close the final was, the last match was all square with one hole to play, but was lost on the 18th hole. Better luck next year guys.
Saturday at last brought some sunshine and finer conditions at Young.
A single stroke was played for trophies donated by Dave Taylor and Darryl Brown. It was also the concluding round of the Connelly’s Office National Cock-o-Walk pointscore event.
The winner on the daily event was Josh Platt when he shot a terrific round of 76 off the stick off an 11 handicap for a 65 nett. Second place went to Bob Carnley with 66 nett, while third place was won by Peter “Zorba” Campbell with a well compiled 68 nett.
Overall winners of the Connelly’s Office National “Cock-o-the-Walk” were Peter “Zorba” Campbell with 58 points in first place, followed by Ian Page with 42 points in second place, and Brad Robinson with 36 points in third place. Prizes for all these events can be collected at the Pro Shop.
Currently our Saturday meat raffle sponsor list rotates among Appsolutely Earthmoving, Caltex Service Station, Patterson Bros Funeral Directors, Brian Maroney Betta Electrical, Ausure Insurance Brokers, and Young Eyes. Thanks for your generous support of the Young Golf Club, it is greatly appreciated.
These raffles have also been disrupted considerably with the spate of foul weather, but hopefully should be much more regular with finer weather.
If anyone else would like to be involved please contact Bill Kearney or the Pro Shop.
The Young Social Golf Club played early Sunday morning in clear and frosty conditions.
In a field of 11, Peter Delahunty won the day with 32 nett on a countback from Ashley Guy, and third placed Bobby Brown with 35 nett.
Peter loses one shot and Ash loses two shots.
Nearest the pin on 17th to Bobby Brown, and one gobble recorded by Jim Delahunty on the 12th. Bradman’s went to Albert Harding with 43.
On Sunday the club hosted the SWDGA Mixed Foursomes Championships, however only a very small field teed it up in this prestigious event.
James French and Christabel Stolhand regained the SWDGA Mixed Foursomes title, having relinquished it last year for the first time this decade.
Christabel and James have almost owned this event of late until a surprise defeat last year at the hands of Keith Dehnert and Helen Pearce from Tumut.
Not to be deterred, they fought back this year with a resounding five-shot victory over their nemesis of last year. Their winning score was 78 and gave them a clear five-shot margin.
Handicap winners were the team of Nick Major and Penny Greaves with 72 nett on a countback from Alan “Wally” Wilder and Sharon Wilder also with 72 nett. Balls went down to 72 nett.
Next Saturday will be a single par event with trophies proudly sponsored by Dean Schofield and Schoies Plumbing, while on Sunday there will be a medley stableford for trophies provided by Chris “Smokey” Fraser.
Please note that on Sunday, August 10 the club will host the Holden Scramble sponsored by Harden Geelan Holden of Young. Played as an Ambrose event, it is open to any current member of a club with a registered GA handicap.
Teams will consist of four players per team.
If we can get a minimum of 48 players or 12 teams, then the winning team will go to Canberra with the chance to progress to the National Final in Queensland.
Having played in many Holden Scrambles myself over the years, I can assure you that they are a great deal of fun.
Get your team organised now and start practicing.
Until next week, keep those drives long and straight.
