It was a great day for our Under 7s with everyone making some great runs and quite a few tries being scored.
Poppy Nuthall opened our tally with a great run, Grace Stoney followed up from some good defence from Will Bryant to get over the line. Oscar McCann and Will Stoney combined to get Hunter McCann across for our final score of the day which was a great way to finish off a great team effort. Well done Yabbies.
The Under 9 Yabbies played Tumut and West Wyalong last Sunday at Grenfell, coming away with two big wins and securing their top of the table status for the season.
The boys dominated both games with good passing and tackling and didn’t stop trying, they were fast paced games with all of the boys getting involved and contributing to the days success.
Coaches Hufton and Lane were very happy overall and contributed the season’s success to the boys enthusiasm and putting into practice what they have learnt at training.
Match points: Three - Ned Hufton, two - Harry Nuthall and one - Ainsley Telfer.
The boys will go into the final round with an unbeatable lead on the ladder, and can enjoy the final games of the season.
The Under 11s came up against Tumut in the first game who had beaten us in the first round.
The boys came out firing with a great display of tackling from Max Kirkwood, Charlie Sullivan and Jack Kennett.
With strong ripping from Will Martin and a try to Bevan Foxall the Yabbies equalised with the Bulls. Strong running from Harvey McGregor, Will Waddell and Sam Smith gained plenty of meters for the Yabbies but some missed opportunities with overlaps there wasn’t enough time to overcome the Tumut lads who won 12-5.
The second game saw the Yabbies come up against the Wyalong Weevils. A much improved effort saw Noah Forbutt make some strong runs.
Both Noah and Mikey Fenny scored excellent tries through smart ‘pick and go’ runs. Other tries to Harvey and Max set up a solid scoreline.
Great hands together with strong runs from Dylan McCorkindale and Jordan Wells ensured the Yabbies win by 24-5.
In the Under 13s with a full-strength side, the boys took on Grenfell first up.
Outstanding play from Nick and Tom Jenkins accompanied by brilliant foot work from James Schiller saw us take the lead, squashing the attack from Grenfell. Charlie Duff was instrumental in defence with Oscar Nuthall working hard at the ruck.
The boys took the win 33-12.
After a shaky start against Coota, Nick Alcorn lifted our attack, with support from Ned Evans. Benny Bonsembiante was brilliant out wide with Declan Telfar creating fantastic play.
Making it two from two, coach Em was delighted with the boys and they should be very proud with what was described as one of their best performances yet.
Cootamundra and Tumut forfeited to the Yabbies in the Under 15s.
The final round in Cootamundra on August 3.
