Results were Red Backs 1 (B Sheppard) drew with Bears 1 (D Lonnen). Blues 9 (A Noon 3, K Day, D Miller 2, B Allen, J Grimson 2) d Collegians 2 (P Gruber, K Kracht), Penguins 1 (R Tubey) d Cougars 0.
Bears and Red Backs fought hard against each other this weekend with the Bears Backs having an outstanding game in defence.
Bears Backs were able to keep out most of the attempts by the Red Backs bar one from Brendan Sheppard.
Brendan, having a great game himself, was rewarded with his goal late in the first half after a long corner resulted in him finding a path to the corner of the goal with a great push, showing us his skill, perseverance and determination.
Bears scored their goal early in the second half from a penalty awarded to the Bears inside the 25.
Great short passing between Janice Dunk, Daniel Wells, and Nicole Holihan to find a waiting Diana Lonnen on the post for her goal proving that when the Bears put their minds to it, they are equal to anything.
By all accounts this was a great match to watch and umpire, with Bears having more chances at scoring than the Red Backs and being unable to convert more than one.
Collegians did their best against a full-strength Blues side who were itching for a game after a forfeit to them the week prior.
Blues seemed to run away with the match winning the game 9-2.
Collegians found it hard to get through the Blues’ defence and were only able to break the line twice with quick plays to score their goals.
Blues had plenty of possession throughout the match with a fair amount of sharing the ball time among themselves.
Ben Allen and Angela Noon had a great game for the Blues and Paul Gruber and Kerrie Edwards had a great game for Collegians.
Those Collegians girls certainly put in their best efforts every week, this week with Theresa coming out with an absolute corker of a bruise on the back of her leg (good on you Gruber!) but still happy with the fact it wasn’t her knees!
Cougars and Penguins had a fun and very even match this weekend.
With Brady Kenny and Brody McKnight being instrumental throughout the midfield for Cougars, Scott Murray and Lauren Marchant equalling their efforts for the Penguins, the game was fought mainly in the midfield with plenty of passing, missing, running and puffing.
Thank goodness for the long arms of Scott Murray or the Penguins would have been in plenty of trouble.
You had a great game Scott, thanks!
Alex McLachlan and Lachlan Dodd were everywhere for the Penguins up the front, while Neil Muir, Vince Tavernese, Elyse Telfer and Loren Wilkinson were certainly pressing in attack for Cougars.
Well done to both teams on what was a great and funny (at times) match to play.
