All competitors in the grand finals must be congratulated not only for the high level of squash but indeed the spirit in which the games were all played.
The A Grade Men’s Championship final was played between Geoff Palmer and Scott Druett, with Scott winning the title 3-0. This was an extremely fast paced and hard fought game.
Congratulations to Scott on his back to back titles.
The A Grade women’s championship was won by Sandra Venness who defeated her opponent Melissa Hewson 3-0. The club wish to congratulate Sandra for her commitment to Young squash and again taking out the A Grade honours.
These two ladies are the only A Grade ladies active in the club and are worthy of their ranking.
The B Grade men’s grand final was played between Dean Kinlyside and Steve Corbett, with Steve getting the edge to win 3-1.
This score-line certainly did not reflect the quality of the overall match and both players deserve to play out the final.
Kellie Edwards and Sandra Richens were the grand finalists in the women’s B Grade championships, with Sandra taking out the match 3-1 in a deserving win.
The men’s C Grade grand final combatants were Lee Armstrong and Zac Williams. In one of the most competitive and hard fought matches of the night, Lee Armstrong was able to take out the match winning 3-2. The Women’s C Grade championship game was played between Melinda Tierney and Linda Frazer. Melinda played a strong game winning 3-0.
The men’s D Grade grand final was one of the highlights of the night. New comer, Bailey Coombes and last year’s champion, James Hardy, put on a very entertaining match. Bailey Coombes eventually took out the final 3-2 in what was a close encounter .
And finally, but certainly not least, the women’s D Grade championship decider was played between Kirsty Rowland and Sally Flanders, with Sally running out the winner 3-1. Well done Sally!
