The six-week adventure will see the club members travel throughout the Northern Territory; making their way up to Alice Springs and through to Darwin, before they begin their journey home through Queensland.

Eight cars make up the convoy that mainly consists of modern vehicles. The decision not to take club cars was decided due to the distance of the trip that totals around 8000km. 

“We should have been in old cars, but we’re taking our old caravans and our old wives instead,” trip organiser Kevin Sharp said.

Another member had a different opinion as to why the club cars were being left at home.

“Because they’re chickens,” Reg Johnson laughed.

But the real reason was explained by trip organiser, Sue Sharp.

“Mainly because of the distance.. and the women want comfort!” she said.

Two members stuck to their guns and cruised off in their ‘68 and ‘74 prized possessions – a stretched minivan and an Alfa Romeo, berlina (pictured).

The winter wander participants will beat the winter blues, returning back to Young on Wednesday, September 3.
