Yesterday Young Shire Council general manager Peter Vlatko invited people unable to access a computer to make use of the computers at Young Regional Library.

“Come in and leave your messages, the staff will be able to guide you to the sites with online condolence books,” he said.

This comes after NSW Premier Mike Baird this week announced condolence books would be placed at public locations across NSW so residents can pay tribute to the victims of flight MH17.

Mr Baird said the condolence books will allow the public to express their sorrow and pay tribute to the victims in a personal way.

Books have been made available at locations across NSW including Parlia-ment House, the Sydney Opera House and NSW Electorate offices including the Yass office of Member for Burrinjuck Katrina Hodgkin-son. 

The online version is available at www.nsw.gov.au.

Staff at Ms Hodgkinson’s office said if residents of Young were unable to access the online condolence book they would personally upload messages sent to them via mail. These letters should be sent to 133 Comur Street, Yass, NSW 2582.

Federal parliamentarians have also opened condolence books, with Angus Taylor’s available at his primary electorate office at 191 Auburn Street, Goulburn.

According to Senator Fiona Nash’s office a digital version of the prime minister’s condolence book is available at www.pm.gov.au. 

She also confirmed arrangements for a National Memorial Service are under consideration.

“More information about the national service will be available in the days ahead,” Senator Nash said. “The decision on ti­ming will be made in consultation with the families but it will not be before August 5, 2014.”

 The day of the National Memorial Service will be declared a National Day of Mourning where flags around Australia will fly at half mast.
