The Member for Burrinjuck said the NSW government has approved $411,632 for the facility from the Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program.
“The additional funding was approved in recognition of unforseen ground conditions and brings the total funding for the program to $5,525,823,” she said.
“It gave me great pleasure as the local member to officially open the Young Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade and Recycled Water Scheme in May.”
The development involved replacing the outdated 70-year-old sewage treatment plant with a modern state-of-the-art facility that would meet the community’s future needs and provide both improved health and environmental outcomes.
The scheme also allowed more recycled water to be utilised for irrigation of the local golf course and sporting fields with expectations for a marked improvement in excess discharges into Burrangong Creek.
Young Shire Council general manager Peter Vlatko said he was grateful for Katrina’s support with “this important infrastructure upgrade” and thanked her for her assistance.
The NSW Office of Water manages the Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program, which totals more than $1.2 billion.
The program is scheduled to run until 2016-17.
“This scheme is a great example of how the NSW government is committed to helping local councils and water authorities to deliver reliable, affordable and sustainable water supplies and sewerage systems to NSW communities through the Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program,” Ms Hodgkinson said.
She said financial assistance is available to local water utilities towards the capital cost of backlog water supply and sewerage infrastructure.
