Displaying the heart they usually play with, the boys decided that without having a game to play on a recent weekend, they would take donations for the ‘Rise for Alex’ program and send the funds away to contribute to the worthy cause.
Coach Roy Jewitt had the idea and with the help of club secretary Sharon Corcoran and the big hearted players, they travelled among the Turvey Park and Young supporters and accepted donations.
The big-hearted supporters from both clubs supported the boys efforts and close to $600 was raised. A worthy effort.
The money will be forwarded to support both the Alex McKinnon and Curtis Landers causes.
Curtis Landers was a teenage player, similarly injured making a tackle soon after Alex McKinnon.
The efforts and attitude of these two players have inspired the rugby league community, the Young Cherrypickers and Turvey Park junior league clubs are sending both their best wishes as well as financial support.
Well done to The Young Cherrypickers and Turvey Park clubs.
