Edwards was charged with public nuisance after being involved in an altercation with an acquaintance on the glitter strip.

He had already served a one-match ban but the club, in consultation with the NRL's integrity unit, determined he sit out another game.

The promising back-rower was also fined $5000 for his actions.

The former Junior Kiwis and Australian Schoolboys representative has already been punted from two NRL clubs for disciplinary reasons but has made a home for himself at the blue and golds after some impressive performances in the Eels pack.

PRIZEMONEY AT SIXES AND NINES

NRL clubs will be able to earn just as much in three days at the Auckland Nines as they do by taking out the entire premiership after officials opted not to increase the prizemoney for the Telstra premiership winner.

The 2014 premiers will pocket just $400,000 for being the best team over a 26-week competition and a gruelling finals campaign, with the beaten grand finalist earning $200,000 and the minor premiers $100,000.

Yet the winner of the nines - a tournament missing most star players because of injury concerns - can earn almost the same amount in just 108 minutes of football.

The winning nines side earns $370,000, the runner-up $240,000, semi-finalists $165,000, quarter-finalists $130,000 while teams get $110,000 just for turning up.

The NRL floated the possibility of raising the stakes for the premiership winner, which would provide a more fitting discrepancy between the prize pools.

However, the clubs wanted the winnings to remain the same so they could get any increases in funding via club grants. It means the spoils on offer for what one chief executive described as a "Mickey Mouse' competition" are as lucrative as the ultimate prize in rugby league.

“At the end of the day there is a pool of money for the clubs and all prize money comes out of that pool,” an NRL spokesman said.

“So any increase in prizemoney would result in lower club grants. The clubs generally agree that they would prefer to see all additional funding for clubs channelled through grants, rather than through additional prizemoney. “

STEWART WANTS TO HAVE FUN

Brett Stewart has opened up about his future at Manly in the latest edition of Men's Fitness magazine, including his desire to finish his career a one-club man and disappointment brother Glenn won't be able to.

Along with training tips and general footy and life observations, Stewart - who has diabetes - spoke about what he wants out of his final years at Brookvale, a club beset by internal rumblings.

While he is disappointed his 12th year playing with Glenn in the NRL will be his last, the Sea Eagles fullback's priority is enjoying the remainder of his career.

“Sure, everyone wants to win a premiership, but basically I want to enjoy what I have to come. Footy is not around forever," Stewart said.

“When you’re growing up, you think it’s going to last forever, but coming towards the back end, you appreciate the mates you make and the position we’re in: to be able to do what we do. I want to keep on enjoying that.”

The latest edition of Men's Fitness, with Stewart on the cover, will hit newsstands on Thursday.

SATTLER HAS FAITH IN MAGUIRE

It's been 43 long years since Souths won the premiership but their last title-winning skipper John Sattler believes the club is ready to finally break the drought. In his new autobiography Glory, Glory, to hit the shelves on August 27, hardman Sattler reserves his greatest praise for Michael Maguire. He says the Souths mentor can lead a new red-and-green dynasty and become the club's best coach since Clive Churchill, who delivered four premierships between 1967 and 1971.

"In Maguire, South Sydney has a coach capable of taking the club to the holy grail," Sattler said.

Now living on the Gold Coast, Sattler has knocked back several approaches over the past decade to tell his story. But the humble Rabbitohs great, who turned 72 during the week, has finally opened up on several explosive topics, including the day he asked his wife to shoot him.

Sattler has been invited to the Souths-Manly game next Friday, a replay of the 1970 grand final in which he bravely played on with a broken jaw.
