As football season winds down and ‘wedding season’ approaches, the junior league club would like to invite you to the “Wedding of the Year”.
The new initiative will act as the club’s only major function of the year.
With the goal to steer away from your typical auction and raffle routine, the focus will instead be on fun and friends.
“Our idea was to have a party where we celebrated the good times and positive culture at the club,” club president Nick Hall said.
“We are often asking for financial help and raising money and this time we thought we’d offer something reasonably priced, where the focus was more on sharing a great time together.”
The night will have most of the traditional aspects of a wedding dinner, although you can expect a few unconventional moments. With a far-from-traditional couple and bridal party, some interesting moments are sure to arise through speeches and formalities.
A few surprises have been scheduled, the live band will take control and the family and friends will let their hair down.
“The bridesmaids’ outfits, although sure to raise an eyebrow or two, are straight from the catwalks of Milan,” Hall said.
“Unfortunately for the single women of Young, the most eligible bachelor in town is about to be off the market. His groomsmen are out to party and I’m sure will be looking to fill the breach.”
The event itself is to be held in the immaculately fitted-out auditorium of the Young Services Club, with the band set to rock all night.
And unlike the average wedding, the invite is open to all.
A three course meal will be served, as well as entertainment which not only includes a band, but some less mainstream and highly entertaining moments.
Tickets are on sale at the Young Services Club for $80 and with two weeks to go it’s time to act.
“A fair bit of work has gone into the night and I hope people get along to try something different - I know it will be a night to remember, not just for Cherrypickers, but for anyone,” Hall said.
“Future or past members are all welcome to come along.”
