Hoerler, formerly of Young, was given parole last Thursday and will be handed over to Department of Immigration and Border Protection officials when he gets out of prison no later than today (August 14).
But the Parole Authority’s decision to free Hoerler outraged relatives of baby Jordan Anderson-Smith, the seven-month-old boy whose short life was snuffed out at the brutal hands of Hoerler in February 2000.
After a house party, Hoerler tortured the baby, crushing his toes with a desk fan clamp and hitting him with such force that he suffered a lacerated liver, bruised pancreas and small bowel and multiple broken ribs.
Hoerler was sentenced to 14 years and four months in prison with a non-parole period of 10 years and nine months, expiring in July, 2012. The full sentence is due to end on February 4, 2016.
His release has also sparked outrage among the 250 people who have signed a petition to have him deported and readers on The Young Witness's Facebook page.
