Wright was sent to the bin in the 49th minute of the 23-22 loss to the Panthers at Sportingbet Stadium, although it was unclear why he was given his marching orders.

Jamie Soward had just dashed 80 metres after taking an intercept, but when the play-the-ball crumbled, the referees sin-binned Wright despite clearly looking unsure as to what caused the breakdown in the ruck.

The Panthers scored from the ensuing set courtesy of a Soward cut-out pass to Mansour, resulting in Green to take aim at the officials after the match.

"I'm a bit perplexed by it to be honest," Green said.

"I honestly think that the ref didn't know what to call because he actually let the play go. If Matt Wright held him down too long, he shouldn't have let him play the ball and he should have sent him off there and then.

''But then Soward plays the ball and Michael Morgan knocks the ball out of his hands, then he sends [Matt Wright] off for 10 minutes.

"So what was the professional foul? If it was a professional foul for holding him down, then that should have happened before he let play continue. Otherwise, if Michael Morgan did the professional foul, it should have been Michael Morgan who got the 10 minutes. I just think he didn't know what was going on."

Cowboys skipper Johnathan Thurston said he wasn't offered an explanation from the referees.

"Nah, they don't give you an opportunity to speak to them," Thurston said.

"They just tell me to get away when I do. I just try and concentrate on footy. Sometimes they don't even give me the time of day."
