But in some areas they are now telling mother nature they have had enough.
Phoenix Park farmer John Wright was pleased to see 80millimetres in the rain gauge, but he now hopes for sun.
The fifth-generation farmer has his fingers crossed the heavy rainfall, known among locals as “flood rain”, will move to other areas where it is needed most.
His property, near Morpeth, backs onto the Hunter River and he has seen enough floods to know they can devastate crops.
“The rain we have had is just what we needed and it’s come at the perfect time because I will start sowing in September.”
State Emergency Service region controller Ken Speer said the Hunter would miss out on heavy rainfall that was causing minor flooding in northern NSW. The sun is expected to grace the region again on Sunday.
