In the past the girls have taken some wins and some loses against this team and they were prepared to take a win and move up the ladder.
However, Tumut had forfeited the game against the Cherryettes and as a result the girls were able to participate in a match against the Cherryatrics.
The weekend was already a special weekend for the Cherryatrics who were holding their reunion.
The fellas were thinking this would be an easy game showcasing their talent and how their skills have not changed since their prime time.
The Cherryettes however had something else in mind.
The game started off strong, with players from both teams knowing that they had their reputation on the line.
Knowing the skills and abilities of the Cherryatrics were well above theirs, the Cherryettes knew that they had the advantage of knowing how to tag, whereas the gentlemen were a little ‘hit and miss’ with their tags. Especially when the girls ran hard lines in hope they would get through.
In the advantage of the Cherryettes this worked well and Caitlin Silk broke through their defence to take the first try of the match.
This made the Cherryatrics work hard and, using the speed of Andrew Miller and Steven Woolford, Cherryatrics were able to get a try.
The Cherryettes bounced back with a quick few tries on the wings. Try scorers were Caitlin Silk (3), Holly Cullen (2) and Katelyn Smith-Nicolls successfully converting a try.
The defence on the weekend was outstanding by the Cherryettes; line speed and hitting holes.
This game is a great credit to their coach Lee Hardy who has been working extremely hard developing this team all year, with 12 new players joining the team at the start of the season.
It is now evident the Cherryettes will be hot contenders for the Group 9 finals next year.
Lee has worked hard coaching the girls and has done wonderful things to developing the team – they look forward to continuing his expertise next year.
This weekend the girls play their final round against Gundagai who are sitting fifth on the Group 9 ladder.
They are looking to build upon last weekend’s game and plan to keep the score to a minimum with the hope of making an upset to the ladder.
Players player on the weekend went to Caitlin Silk for her outstanding tries, defence, ball skills and tagging expertise.
Another highlight was Ash Rolfe who stepped up and was a tagging queen.
