They also donated $750 to the RFS South West Slopes Zone cadets unit.
Every year Donges Supa IGA dip into their community chest – which contains funds especially put aside for charity - and distributes those funds to the cadets and select RFS brigades.
On Wednesday afternoon representatives from every fire brigade in the Young Shire - bar three - were presented with their cheques.
The total amount presented came to $5250 for 17 RFS brigades, Young Fire and Rescue NSW Brigade and the cadets.
“We decided to do something different and give a bit to everyone this time,” owner Robert Donges said.
“The only way they get these funds is if people shop with us.”
RFS South West Slopes Zone manager Andrew Dillon congratulated Donges Supa IGA for their “outstanding commitment to the RFS around Young”.
“More in particular the cadets, it’s just marvellous,” he said.
Cadets trainer Sam Tout said Robert had been sponsoring the cadets for six to seven years.
“Without Robert there’d be no cadets… without [his] support they’d have to do a great deal of fundraising which takes them away from training,” he said.
“It’s really good.”
The RFS brigades who benefited from the funding include Wombat, Memagong, Tubbul, Thuddungra, Maimuru, Milvale, Murringo, Monteagle, Bribbaree, Koorawatha, Bendick Murrell, Boara, Young, Clover Hill, Crowther, Wootona and Wambanumba.
