These are the words of Mrs Jennifer Duddle who is a strong supporter of raising awareness of violence against children.

So much so that she – within an Australian charity known as YGAP  – will do her part in effecting social change to raise awareness for violence against children, and she is asking the men of Young to help her along the way.

Polished Man is an innovative fundraising campaign that challenges men to end violence against children. While most men don’t perpetrate violence, around 90 per cent of all violence committed against children is perpetrated by men.

The majority of this violence happens behind closed doors and is committed by people known to the child. YGAP believes all men have a role to play in ensuring children feel safe and can reach their full potential.

Don’t worry ladies, you can take part too.

The idea of Polished Man is to wear nail polish on one fingernail from September 1 to 15.

Why only one fingernail? Because statistics show that one in five children globally are exposed to violence before the age of 18.

The Hub Community Centre, Young will be holding a stall in front of Westpac Bank on Thursday, September 4 between 10am and 1pm and encourage men in the community to get their nail painted and make a gold coin donation.

Don’t worry if you can’t make it to the stall, because Hub volunteers will be popping into local businesses armed with nail polish – kindly donated by the Hairhouse Warehouse – and a charity bucket for those wishing to donate to the cause.

“We believe men have a leading role in ending violence,” Mrs Duddle said.
