After nearly a decade in state politics Mr Buswell thanked the constituents of Vasse which he said he was "honoured" to serve since 2015.
“Over the last ten years I have had the privilege of meeting some wonderful people and have had the opportunity to work with them to deliver great outcomes for the local community."
- Troy Buswell
Mr Buswell said that while he had been proud to have served as a government Minister he had always considered himself a local Member of Parliament and the real reward of his time in parliament was being able to represent the people of the Vasse electorate.
“Over the last ten years I have had the privilege of meeting some wonderful people and have had the opportunity to work with them to deliver great outcomes for the local community," he said.
Mr Buswell said that he wanted to thank his family, staff, colleagues and constituents for their support during his time in office.
“Firstly my sincere thanks to my family who have never wavered in their support for me, notwithstanding the ups and downs of my career in politics."
“My staff in both my electorate office and Ministerial office have worked tirelessly and with unquestionable loyalty and professionalism to provide an extremely high level of support to the local community and the Government.
“My constituents, who have extended to me the honour of representing them in the State Parliament since 2005.
“My colleagues in Parliament and the Liberal party who I have been fortunate to serve with during my time as Member for Vasse.”
Mr Buswell decided to step down from public life saying it was incompatible with his medical condition.
He said thank you to his family who " who have never wavered in their support for me, notwithstanding the ups and downs of my career in politics."
"I have been considering my long term future in politics for some time now having always said that I never intended to be a career politician. Events of the last 6 months and learning to live and work with my medical condition have led me to conclude that I can no longer continue life as a Member of Parliament.
“The pressure and level of scrutiny that comes with life in the public eye is not conducive to my wellbeing and means that I am unable to fulfill my role as a Member of Parliament to the capacity and with the passion that the position deserves.
“For me to continue is not in my best interests, it is not in the best interests of the Liberal Party and the Government, and it is certainly not in the best interests of my constituents.
“Whilst I feel in many ways that I am letting my electorate down and I have found this an extremely difficult decision to make, in my opinion, it is the right thing to do.”
