Speaking to The Witness yesterday organiser Sarah Sullivan said she was thrilled at the outcome of the event - held at the school for the first time in seven years - and the first she has ever been involved with.
With the support of fellow organiser Melissa McColl and a swathe of parents and volunteers - when the gates opened at 10am and finally closed at 3pm Saturday - the school hosted a spectacular show.
There were 32 stalls set up for the hundreds of people who swarmed onto the Elizabeth Street grounds.
“The weather was beautiful and the day exceeded our expectations,” Sarah said.
And praise went to the entire community for their support.
“It was lovely to see the Young community support the school - many of them people who had no links to the school,” she said.
There was also high praise for the organisations who volunteered their time for the occasion, including the Rural Fire Service, Young Fire and Rescue and the NSW Ambulance Service who had their vehicles on display for all to see up close.
Young Lions Club were commended for their exceptional job feeding the hordes with barbecued food and hot chips.
“They were unreal,” Sarah said.
Big drawcards were the dunking dunny and mechanical bull, according to Sarah.
And it’s still all the talk of the school with some kids overheard describing it as “the best day ever”.
They did their bit by creating craft items to decorate the school grounds.
Funds raised throughout the day were still being tallied but are expected to go straight back into improvments to the grounds and buildings.
