The work involved building wider lanes at the Iandra Street intersection, including a right turn lane from the Olympic Highway.
The new turning lane will improve traffic flow and reduce the risk of crashes by separating through and turning traffic.
Work also included widening the shoulders near the intersection and removing nearby hazards such as power poles.
Drainage was improved and the road surface was also replaced.
The work, which started in May, was the second stage of improvements to Elizabeth Street.
In making the announcement Member for Burrinjuck Katrina Hodgkinson said the works were part of the NSW government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure in the local area.
“The first stage of work was completed in 2012 at a cost of $1.5 million to provide a new road surface for motorists,” Ms Hodgkinson said.
“Roads and Maritime thanks motorists for their patience during this important work.”
Mayor of Young, Councillor Stuart Freudenstein said Stage 2 of the Olympic Highway Elizabeth Street upgrade would provide a fitting and significant entrance to Young.
“Young Shire Council appreciates the NSW government’s contribution of $1.1 million for this important work,” Cr Freudenstein said.
The 318 kilometre highway links Cowra with Albury and is a busy route for transport and freight as well as local traffic.
