Losing Riley Brownlie before the game didn’t help the cause. Early injuries to Will Steed and Jesse Simpson and a sick Mitchell Prest also put us on the back foot.
Even at full strength we wouldn’t have been close to this very strong Gundagai side. The boys tried hard all day but couldn’t get close to the Gundagai number one, who scored five tries and kicked a goal in a very dominant individual performance.
It looked like we would go into half time 18-6 down with a well-worked try to Liam Jewitt, converted by Matt Noakes.
But with two seconds on the clock Gundagai waltzed through for an easy try.
Two quick tries after half time put the game out of reach.
“Full credit to all the boys, they give it their all,” coach Roy Jewitt said.
Further tries to Charlie Corcoran and Shaun Hambrook, converted by Kai Langfield and Liam Jewitt.
“Well done to all the boys,” Jewitt said.
“It was a great week for the boys, especially with the video we put together from all the parents, principals from their schools, NRL and super league players wishing the boys good luck.”
Jewitt would like to thank all the players and all of the parents who helped out in some form, the sponsors, the hard-working committee and to Dean Kinlyside for putting the DVD together for him.
“It’s something to be talked about for a long time,” Jewitt said.
