Players and supporters of the First Grade, Second Grade, Third Grade and Under 17s sides rallied to the Empire Hotel on Saturday, September 13 where they were treated to a great night.
MC on the night was John Pattinson, and guest speaker was Nick Farr-Jones.
Nick is an ex-Wallaby captain who played 55 test matches for Australia. He currently works in a mining investment company but continues to support several NSW Country Rugby events per year.
“He was fantastic – he spoke for a good 20 minutes about experiences in life and gave some really good insight into life at the top of the professional sporting arena, and gave some good advice to the younger players in the club,” club president Ben Reid said.
“It was great, just added to the night. It was a fairly full night with all the awards, but to have him come along really topped it off.”
The year as a whole has been a huge success for the club after they underwent a change of committee at the end of the 2013 season, with their sights set on improving all aspects of the club both on and off the field.
A year on and the club can confidently say they have achieved their goal of re-building the club and getting results on the field.
“2013 was a pretty poor year for the club and we wanted 2014 to be a year of re-building which we achieved,” Reid said.
“Our Under 17s made the grand final and lost narrowly, our Third Grade made the semi finals, our Second Grade won the Romanos Cup grand final and First Grade was competitive with all the top sides.”
With another season done and dusted the club now turns its focus to 2015 which will be another milestone for the Yabbies.
“2015 is our 60th year as a club, so we are really looking for next year to be a year of consolidation on this year,” Reid said.
The club will be holding celebrations throughout the year to mark the occasion, with the main event being a 60th year dinner to be held on the June long weekend.
Again the committee hopes to improve next season in all aspects of the club.
“On the field we’re looking to improve on what was a good year this year, but certainly want to improve on that next year,” Reid said.
