In its 25th year, the series is a season ender to the popular gardening program.
Entitled “A Grand System” the segment, which is to air on November 1, has presenter Angus Stewart talking to Bill and Rhonda Daly of “Milgadara” on the Moppity Road about the large scale composting system they use to increase the health of their soil and crops.
This system has, of course, led to the creation of the local company YLAD.
YLAD Living Soils was established in 2002 by the Dalys who quickly gained the reputation as leaders in agronomic advice for biological farming systems, including environmental educational programs to farmers, making the transition from conventional to biological agricultural practices with confidence.
Founder and managing director Rhonda Daly said she was thrilled to host the film crew when they came to down.
“YLAD Living Soils are proud to have this amazing opportunity to showcase to a the nation what ingenuity and brilliance can be manifested in Young for farmers looking how to produce food in a more environmentally friendly manner,” she said.
The program will go to air on Saturday, November 1 at 6.30pm and repeated Sunday at 1pm. The segment can be downloaded or streamed from the ABC website after that time.
Cherry farmers might also benefit from another segment that evening.
“The Flying Doctors” has Sophie Thompson discovering how soil fungus is being used to combat a disease in cherries, and how the delivery method being used is creating quite a buzz.
