The Young driver not only picked up second for the round but second in the championship point standings.
In what was been a challenging first full-time year in the challenge, McCorkindale managed to overcome it by finishing the year strongly.
In the final two rounds, at Queensland Raceway and Phillip Island Raceway, he finished in first and second place respectively.
One of his highlights of the year was being able to overcome adversity.
“I didn’t have the best start to the year, where I had a bit of bad luck and some learning experiences, but I didn’t give up and I was rewarded with a strong finish to the year,” he said.
“The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge is a hotly contested category, and not only was I coming up against tough opposition, I was having to learn new circuits.”
In regards to next year, McCorkindale is hoping to go one spot better in the Porsche GT3 Challenge Championship.
“My plan is to go around again next year, and our main focus is to win the championship,” he said.
“Going through the tough periods this year is certainly going to help my team and I be better prepared for next year’s championship.”
Apart from next year’s challenge, McCorkindale is planning to compete in selected Australian GT Championship rounds next year.
“The Australian GT Championship is part of the support card at selected V8 Supercar rounds,” he said.
“Not only will being part of the category help me gain more experience, but it will help give my sponsors and I more exposure in front of larger audiences.”
At the conclusion of this year’s six-round Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Championship, McCorkindale finished in second in the point standings behind winner Fraser Ross.
McCorkindale would like to thank Dial Before You Dig, Dustan Constructions and Mr Mac Vacuum Excavations for their 2014 sponsorship, along with the support of his mum and dad (Chris and Garry) and fiancée (Bec).
