The first 10 ends of the game were low scoring with the score tied at 6–all.

After 14 ends Joe’s team led 9–7 but the next four ends were decisive with Michael’s team scoring 13 shots to lead 20–9.

The first game of the mixed pairs was also played on Saturday with Elsie and Geoff Hines opposed to Judith and Terry Mulligan.

This game also saw an even start with the score at 8–all after 10 ends.

Elsie and Geoff dominated the scoring from that point to win 22–11.

Another 24 players were involved in jackpot bowls.

While most games were close the combination of Steve Barnes and Joe Chambers turned in a strong performance to win by 20 shots.

Other winners were John Cooper and Ian Schofield (6), Kevin Bryant and Alex Watson (1), Albert Carter and Les Fanning (8), Keith Smith and Dave Ward (4), and James Freudenstein and Joe Bargwanna (3).

The jackpot of $200 survived for another week.

There were 16 players on Sunday morning.

The best score for the morning was 18 points for Matt Wade and John Cooper.

Sunday afternoon saw four more games played in the Mixed Pairs.

In the game between Marlene Shea and George Somerville and Col and Margo Parker play was very even for the first two–thirds of the game with Col and Margo leading 14–13 after 14 ends.

Six consecutive ends to Marlene and George gave them the advantage and they won 29–15.

Ann Marshall and Stuart Freudenstein were level with Mark Anderson and Therese Ruhl at 12–all after 14 ends of their game.

After 17 ends Mark and Therese led 15–14 and with scores on each of the final 3 ends they won 25–14.

The game between Sheila and Cliff Traynor and Margaret Gailey and Peter Slater saw Sheila and Cliff leading 14–13 after 13 ends.

Sheila and Cliff won the next 2 ends to lead by 6 shots and despite Margaret and Peter winning 4 of the last 6 ends the final score was 22–18 in Sheila and Cliff’s favour.

In the fourth game Lyn Martin and Ian Gailey took an early lead of 7-5 against Ann Gardner and Joe Chambers.

Ann and Joe then won 7 of the next 9 ends to lead 18–10 with five ends to play.

Lyn and Ian won all of the final five ends but could not quite bridge the gap and Ann and Joe won 18–17.

Tuesday night saw the start of the club’s night bowls competitions.

Ten teams took part in the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge with Beez Neez the winners on the night with a score of 16 points.

There were eight games played in the Thursday night division of this competition and a count–back was needed to decide the winners. Positively Young won the count–back over Slightly Biased with both teams scoring 15 points.

The winners for Wednesday night’s Business House bowls were the Hospital Shop team with 15 points. Mitre 10 also had 15 points but lost the countback.

Twenty two players took part on Thursday afternoon and the results showed some of the vagaries of team selection.

Five games were set up with evenly matched teams and the margins were 2, 3, 4, 5 and 30.

The winners of the vouchers with the 30 shot margin were Dave Ward and John Cooper.

All night competitions will continue this week – Guy Pickering Charity Challenge and Business House Bowls. Teams are still being accepted for any of these competitions.

There is a jackpot of $200 on Thursday afternoon with play starting at 1.30pm.

There will not be any championship games this weekend but jackpot bowls will be played on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning bowls will start at 9.30am.

There will be visiting players from Condobolin involved in jackpot bowls on Saturday and dress will be casual. The visitors will also be playing on Sunday morning.

Good luck to the South Western side playing in the Bing Wallder Shield competition at Narrandera over the weekend. 

A number of players from our club will be competing in this event for the first time and the experience against players from other districts in Zone 8 will be to their benefit.

It was great to see more than 30 players on the green for the Wilder’s Bakery social bowls evening on Saturday.

There will be an afternoon of mixed bowls on Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday, November 4.

There have been very encouraging reports concerning the club’s new caterers – Bowling King – and it is to be hoped that our members and guests will continue the good support that was shown on Friday night.
