In the mixed competition, we saw the game of the week going to Sweet Cherry Pie and The Boss’ Crew.
The game started off strong with both teams keeping their defence tight and ensuring there was a lot of talk on the field, putting a few strategies in place it took about five minutes for the first try to go down.
It was through Jake Dawe throwing a massive three person cut-out pass to Micaela Hall who successfully caught the ball and went in on the wing for a try.
Micaela was on fire during a game that later she saw her take advantage of an opening to sprint and successfully put down another try.
We saw a very fast set completed by The Boss’ Crew, where they caught a very unsuspecting Saul Lealaitafea (Sweet Cherry Pie’s Wing) too far in where they were able to run around him and place down a try.
This didn’t deter the winger, where he later in the game caught an intercept where he was able to make the distance and score a try.
However, Michelle Bennett - the centre for Boss’ Crew - saw another opportunity on the wing and she was able to take her second for the match.
Tries in this game went to Ryan Braham, Jake Dawe, Micaela Hall (x2), Saul Lealaitafea, Jayke Parish, Luke Sneddon, Jake Veney (x2), with the final result being 9-2, Sweet Cherry Pie taking the win.
Is this an early come back with Sweet Cherry Pie finishing third in last year’s competition? Will we see them again in the top of the ladder?
In the men’s competition we saw the game of the week go to Tester Porter Warriors and Empire Emus.
This game was hot from the touch off, with the Tester Porter Warriors only half the size of the Empire Emus and most of them half the age.
The skills from the Empire Emus was very strong, the speed not so strong but the game play outstanding.
The direction and guidance from the captain Jake Dawe saw Tom Bush go over the try line to start the game.
It didn’t take long for the Empire Emus to grab another try, which saw the Tester Porter Warriors determined not to let the older boys take them.
With speed on their side we saw a few quick sets up the middle from the Tester Porter Warriors with James Ferguson, Zac Sell, Jack Simpson, Jordan Noakes and Jonty Langfield taking control in the centres.
This allowed the boys to catch the Empire Emus offside and Jordan Noakes go straight throw for a try which was set up by Jack Simpson.
The final result was Empire Emus were too strong for the youngsters, with the score being 9-3.
Tries went to Tom Bush, Jake Dawe, Riley Scelly (x2), Luke Sneddon, Jake Veney (x3) for the Empire Emus and Jonty Langfield, Jordan Noakes and Tyler for the Testor Porter Warriors.
In the Judges Juniors competition, it was fantastic to see so many juniors having a go on Thursday.
They continued their skills from the previous week and built on passing and started developing their dumbing skills, then moved to putting these skills into practice.
Great to see so many kids having fun.
The Judges Junior competition is completely full and to avoid disappointment please do not turn up on Thursday evening and ask for positions as we cannot take any more unfortunately.
We would like to thank all our sponsors Anytime Fitness, Judge’s Pharmacy, Empire Hotel and Wilkinsons Travel for their support.
Just a few reminders that referees on duty need to ensure that they sign on and are on time to the games.
Failure to do so will result in team penalties.
This week there will be drinks and a barbecue on sale again so please support this great opportunity to not have to cook on a Thursday and enjoy a great time with family and friends.
