Despite registrations being low, those who did support the event had a cracker of a time.
The evening kicked off with the Skins fringe event that saw Young’s Hayden Rutter take out the men’s category, and Cobar’s Georgia Baker in the womens. Both victors were awarded $200 prizemoney for their efforts.
Charlie Dodds of Tumut and William Coulter scored second and third respectively for the men, and Ellie Rutter and Lucy Smart for the womens.
Teams representing LFE, Curves, Shaun Stuart Building Contractor, Young Aquatic Centre, MA Steel and Impact Fertilizers - as well as teams participating for fun - accepted the challenge.
LFE, in particular, earned plenty of praise after entering three teams of their own.
“It was good to see they supported the event and also supported their own team members throughout the swim,” Young Amature Swimming Club life member Catherine Hall said. “They brought their picnic table and umbrella and drinks and eats!”
The winner of the main event were Streets Ahead consisting of Emily Hardy, Tim Langfield, Sam Langfield and Harrison Back.
Kiwi Connection came in second, followed by Wacky Racers in third.
The winner of the Consolation Swim was Team Madden, followed by Team Impact and Canteen Quartet in third.
Best Dressed went to The Bogan Bombers consisting of Ethan McEvoy, Pipi Coddington, Lucy Smart and Georgia Vitnell.
The Young Amature Swimming Club and Young Aquatic Centre wish to extend a big thank you to those who made the challenge possible, including Stuart Maxwell for commentating, CanAssist for running the barbecue, raffle and 100 Club and Kay McDonald Signs, Trophies and Engraving for donating the trophies.
Thanks also goes to the Cherry Splash Challenge sponsors - IGA, McAlister Motors, Shaun Stuart Building Contractor and the Young Aquatic Centre.
“To the past and present members of the swimming club who assisted on the day, thank you,” Hall said.
