Steve and Sally Smith of “Burramunda”, on the Henry Lawson Way took out the top honours.
Coming in with 171 points the crop gained very high marks for rotational and management practices.
Judge Paul Parker commented that the winning crop was very clean and even and true to type with very low disease and weed issues.
“Like other crops in the region this crop is relying on stored moisture to get it home,” he said.
“With limited rainfall in the past few months crops are relying on good stored soil moisture from earlier in the season.
“This year the plant roots have been able to push down as far as 1.5 metres.”
After judging, the contestants enjoyed a meal at the Young Showground where Paul gave a debriefing of the six crops judged through the day.
Only one point separated first and second place with Michael and Pauline Ricketts taking out second, while David and Belinda Davidson took out a very deserving third place.
The 2014 Young Showgirl, Laura Pollard, presented the winners with their ribbons to cap off a very successful day.
Young Show Society would like to thank all entrants for making the effort, Paul Parker for judging and in particular the catering team for a job well.
