At council’s monthly meeting last week, Councillor John McGregor publically extended his congratulations to local vignerons Jason and Alecia Brown of Moppity Vineyards for producing a national champion wine and smashing new milestones.
The couple won the prestigious Visy Great Australian Shiraz Challenge award for their 2013 Reserve Shiraz.
It was a dream 10 years in the making and the first win by a NSW wine in the show’s 20 year history.
Five Moppity Vineyards wines were pitted against 392 entries representing 60 wine regions throughout the country. Each of the five wines were awarded five medals and three rated in the top 10.
Cr Sandy Freudenstein praised Turners Furniture One for so quickly getting back on their feet following the devastating fire that destroyed their Clarke Street store on September 27.
The local business relocated to their new premises in Lovell Street on November 14.
“[It’s great to see] the speed and confidence this business has in Young in relocating to their new premises,” she said.
“I just wanted to thank them for their support in the town of Young.”
