Cassie Boland (flute), Freya Steele (percussion) and Nick Boland (French horn) from Young Regional School of Music were recently selected to participate in the ANSWRC London Symphony Orchestra Project in Sydney.
The “Play” Program involved 100 students from regional NSW working with LSO members and Australian World Orchestra artistic director and conductor Alexander Briger.
Students spent three days in workshops, rehearsing alongside London Symphony Orchestra tutors.
They also had the opportunity to observe an LSO rehearsal and attend one of the LSO concerts in the Opera House, led by Russia’s greatest living conductor Valery Gergiev.
This once-in-a-lifetime experience concluded with students and LSO performing together in an afternoon concert at Verbrugghen Hall at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
The audience enjoyed three works including Nimrod by Edward Elgar, Lieutenant Kije Suite by Sergei Prokofiev, and America from Leonard Brenstein’s West Side Story.
