And so be it on the weekend of December 13 four teams from Young, Cowra, Temora and Goulburn will converge on Hall Bros Oval for Young’s Over 35s Masters Soccer Carnival.
The day will kick off at 9am with 12 games of 20 minute halves. A presentation will be held at the clubhouse at the conclusion of the day.
“It’d be nice to have a few people come up and create a bit of interest,” organiser Roy Jewitt said.
“It’s a learning process and hopefully will go onto bigger and better things in following years.”
Young’s squad consists of about 16 players, ranging from teachers, builders, policemen, mechanics and farmers.
With the carnival only days away Jewitt is hoping their three weeks of training will pay off.
“A lot of the blokes play futsal, a few rugby union, boxing, so everyone will be in reasonable condition...I hope!” he said.
“It is competitive but it’s not about winning.”
Organisers welcome anyone wishing to play, at a cost of $20 per person, and urge them to call Roy on 0428 862 661 or Paul Everdell on 0428 426 094.
“Any of the old soccer players who want to rekindle some magic, give us a ring to let us know you’re available so we can organise numbers,” Jewitt said.
“Come up and have a kick around.”
Organisers extended their appreciation to The Young Junior Rugby League Club who will run the barbecue and canteen on the day, Young Lions Soccer Club members who will referee and be linesmen, Paul Cameron for organising the draw, and Ted Hill and the Young Shire Council for getting the grounds in perfect condition.
