His final day on Wednesday was a fitting farewell, attending a morning tea to congratulate Year 12s who received their subject scores.
Hennessy was Dr Webster’s first venture into the country and he said he loved the experience.
“I’ve had some wonderful sendoffs and farewells, that’s been amazing,” he said.
“Today the HSC kids came in with their results, it was the end of one group and the start of something new, both for Hennessy and for me.”
He said the support of the school community meant he had been able to act on the vision he had for the school.
“The Hennessy community has backed our initiatives and supported the direction,” Dr Webster said.
“Our kids are now serving their communities better and with more passion and enthusiasm, but what I’m most proud of is the change in teaching and learning.
“If I was a kid I’d love to be in our Year 7.
“It’s just pretty to watch and the kids enjoy coming to school.”
Dr Webster has taken up a new position at Stanhope Gardens, Catholic Learning Community.
Dr Webster’s not the only familiar face departing from Hennessy, with director of curriculum Kathy Holding moving to the Catholic Education Office in Canberra and director of mission, Nicole Morton, moving on to Albury.
Young High will also have a new principal next year, with Andrew Turvey announcing on Tuesday that he was stepping down to take up a new principalship in Queanbeyan.
“I’m feeling a mixture of dissapointment and excitement, we’ve done an amazing amount of work in the last four years to really focus and have an aspirational culture,” he said.
“It’s dissapointing to be leaving before all those kids are really starting to show new reuslts.
“I’d like to thank the community for their support tthey’ve given me in this role.”
Keith Duran will be the relieving principal while a recruitment process takes place.
