Police were called to Centrelink after a 67-year-old man attended the Lovell Street office about midday Thursday.
He became agitated when he was told he had to use a computer to process his request.
Police said the man became frustrated after previously using all his credit on the phone to Centrelink and proceeded to threaten staff.
“If I hear one more word about computers I’m going to come back with a gun and shoot all the computers like what happened in Sydney,” he said.
The manager told the man to leave the building and informed him that she was going to call the police.
The accused later attended Young Police Station of his own accord and admitted making the comments, but said they were meant to be funny.
Police told the man such threats were taken very seriously.
After it was established that he didn’t have access to firearms or have any intention of carrying out his threats, he was issued with a criminal infringement notice for offensive conduct.
He was also banned from Centrelink for five days.
