Our annual seven-a-side competition is to be played Saturday and Sunday of the Australia Day long weekend.
Team and individual registrations are being finalised on Tuesday, so visit youngdca.nsw.cricket.com.au to register your team or as an individual, or visit the Criterion Hotel or Connelly’s Office National and complete a team registration and pay your nomination fee before 6pm.
Not only is this year’s Sevens tournament expected to be one of the best the area has seen, there will also be a free Milo T20 Cricket Come and Try session during the lunch break on Saturday for children aged seven to 12.
T20 Blast is a new mid-week competition we’ll be starting in February and has the same look and feel as the Big Bash T20 Cricket, with coloured clothes and less overs, currently being show on TV.
If you are aged seven to 12 and would like to register, visit T20blast.com.au and put in the Young postcode of 2594 on the right hand side of the page to find out more.
We are also holding a Monster Cricket Fundraiser for the Young Cricket Association with some fantastic memorabilia available.

Junior cricketers at state country championships
We have had some of our best junior players away representing Western Zone at the NSW Country Cricket Championships.
Nic Hall and Jacob Lucas were away last week with the Under 14s for the Kookaburra Cup.
The Western team played very well, winning their three pool games and playing North Coast in the final.
Unfortunately they came second in this match with one of the North Coast batsmen J Cooper scoring 113 of 219 off 50 overs. That’s pretty impressive for a 13-year-old.
Nic bowled well and took four wickets for 36 in this match.
Jacob, who captained the side, took one catch and made 27 in the run chase.
Unfortunately, the Western boys ran out of overs finishing their 50 overs nine for 192 with T. Nelson 72 not out.
Nic took eight wickets for the tournament across the four matches with his best figures in the final, while Jacob took four wickets and made 59 runs.
After four full days of cricket you would think they’d be looking for a rest, but Jacob and his two younger siblings Abby and Corey headed to Sydney for the State Indoor Cricket trials.
This week Jonte Powderly has been representing Western Zone Under 16s in the Bradman Cup NSW Country Championships.
Jonte has been opening the batting and wicket keeping, but unfortunately the Western team started with two losses Monday and Tuesday, day one against Newcastle after scoring nine for 192, and day two after being bundled out for just 115 against Central Northern.
Jonte had made scores of 12, after seeing two of his team mates dismissed in the first three balls of the match, and 17 respectively.
Day three saw Western take on Southern.
Western were asked to bat first and made a respectable nine for 196 with Jonte opening the batting and making 33, but unfortunately once again it was not quite enough runs with Southern passing the score just four wickets down with three overs to spare.
Southern went on to play in the final.
Senior competition
In the local senior competition we kicked off the New Year in damp conditions but from all reports the T20 matches were all completed.
Father and son duo of Paul and Duncan Cameron batted the Criterion Dragons to victory over the Coyotes.
Another veteran Chris Martin scored 59 and got his Young Hotel Saints to 114 off 20 overs but wasn’t enough as the Mill Tavern Scorchers chased them down in just 18 overs.
In A Grade matches the Services Club Blues defeated Canowindra at Cranfield Oval at 1pm and were followed at 4.30pm, after a short delay for a passing shower, the Criterion Coyotes A Graders also defeated Cowra Valleys by chasing down 115 inside of 20 overs.
