The “Twilight” competition will commence on Sunday, February 8 and run through until March 29 with matches to commence at 4pm each week.
The competition will continue to be of a social nature and this year will be open to players from Year 5 (11 years old) and above to our more senior players.
It is designed to encourage both those who may be thinking of trying the sport and who have had little or no experience as well as existing players looking to gain a little fitness.
The rules are modified so senior male players are not allowed to hit the ball and are limited to scoring one goal so that they don’t dominate games and encourages more emphasis on team play to include the girls and younger players to be more involved.
Matches will be played over four 10 minute quarters.
Individual or team nominations to play in the twilight competition are to be made by contacting Michael Skillen on 6382 2109, Peita Payne on 6382 4824 or email your details (name, age and contact details) to
younghockey@hotmail.com
Nominations will close on Tuesday, February 3.
The cost to participate in this years Twilight competition will be $30 for senior players and $20 for all school students.
Teams and draw will be published in The Young Witness on Friday, February 6.
Prior to Twilight Hockey commencing on Sunday, February 8, young players between 11 and 18 years old are encouraged to attend the hockey fields at Sawpit Gully to participate in training sessions to be held this Sunday, January 25 and the following Sunday, February 1.
Training starts at 5pm.
Players are expected to bring their own hockey sticks, a ball, a water bottle and to wear properly fitted shin guards and mouth guards.
Training will incorporate an understanding of the rules, positions and preparation prior to playing as well as skills practice.
There is no cost and all players are welcome regardless of their ability.
