The “Twilight” competition will commence on Sunday, February 8 and run through until March 29 with matches to commence at 4pm each week.
The competition will continue to be of a social nature and this year will be open to players from Year 5 (11 years old) and above to our more senior players.
It is designed to encourage both those who may be thinking of trying the sport and who have had little or no experience as well as existing players looking to gain a little fitness.
The rules are modified so that senior male players are not allowed to hit the ball and are limited to scoring one goal so that they don’t dominate games and encourages more emphasis on team play to include the girls and younger players to be more involved.
Matches will be played over four 10 minute quarters.
Individual and team nominations to play in the twilight competition are to be made by contacting Michael Skillen on 6382 2109, Peita Payne on 6382 4824 or emailing details of your name and age, team name to younghockey@hotmail.com.
The cost to participate in this year’s Twilight competition will be $30 for senior players and $20 for all school students.
A working bee will be conducted Saturday, February 7 at 3pm to ensure the fields are right for the commencement of play.
Teams and draw will be published in The Young Witness on Friday, February 6.
There was a great turnout at hockey training last Sunday.
Just a reminder, there is one more training session for young players between 11 and 18 years old, before the Twilight Hockey competition commences.
Training will be held at the hockey fields at Sawpit Gully on Sunday commencing at 4.45pm and concluding at 6pm with a sausage sizzle.
Players are expected to bring their own hockey sticks, a ball, a water bottle and to wear properly fitted shin guards and mouth guards.
Training will continue to incorporate an understanding of the rules, positions and preparation prior to playing as well as skills practice.
There is no cost and all players are welcome regardless of their ability.
