Representatives from the club - Dave Shillington, Dane Tilse, Alan Tongue and Tim Del Guzzo - came to Young for their 15th annual Community Carnival that will see them visit 11,558 students in 45 schools across the area.
The Raiders visited Young Public School at 2pm where they were greeted with an auditorium full of enthusiastic students ranging from Year 3 to 6.
“They seem pretty enthralled by it all,” teacher Jan Watts said.
Two lucky students, Jacob Maslin and Kate Davidson, as well as teacher Jennine Nelson, challenged prop David Shillington to a 30 second push-up challenge.
Once the 30 minute visit wrapped up it was off to St Mary’s Primary School for the NRL stars.
Here they were asked questions like, “Are you rich and famous?” and “Reckon you’re going to win this year?”.
Former Raiders captain Tongue said it was important the team covered rural areas.
“Community Carnival delivers an important message to help kids in their lives and these players are in a good position to influence these decisions,” Tongue said.
The representatives covered topics such as healthy lifestyles, exercise and how we view ourselves.
Prop Tilse also hopes the visit had a good influence on the students.
“We’re hoping to spread a good message and give the kids a team to go for - get some fans,” he said.
