But three local groups have decided to come together to bring the town some answers.

On Wednesday, March 4 the Hilltops Suicide Prevention Network, Art of Espresso and Young Shire Council are holding an information session for community members who want to know how to have a conversation with their loved ones, what to say and do, and what signs to look out for when they are concerned.

It’s called ‘Talking about .... having a conversation’ and it will be held at Art of Espresso at 5.30pm.

“The idea for having a conversation came about after discussions about how hard it can be for family members to know what to say when they are worried about someone they care about,” said Sue Fenning from the Hilltops Suicide Prevention Network.

“There is a fear that they might say something wrong or make the person feel worse, but it is important family and friends know they can have that conversation and that they can help.

NSW Health representatives will be at Art of Espresso to answer any questions on the night.

“And to make sure that people can get the right information to be able to have a conversation that can make a real difference,” Ms Fenning added.

Topics covered will include:

* Signs that indicate someone’s not coping well with current stressors or that their mental health is deteriorating.

* Listening and talking openly in ways that helps someone feel safe talking about their inner struggle, which may include thoughts or plans to harm themselves. 

* Looking after yourself: connecting with people you trust and things that are meaningful for you.

* Where and who to go to for help.

Art of Espresso owner Adrian Capra was quick to support the project. 

“I’m pleased to be able to support this great initiative,” he said.

“I think that it’s important to support community projects like this and I am proud to be part of the conversation.

People can drop in, get some valuable information and have a coffee, on the house.
