The tour party of 23 will participate in the carnival from tomorrow March 5 to Sunday, March 7.
“This will be the seventh time we have made the pilgrimage north, playing six games over three days,” captain Steve Woolford said.
And the action kicks off immediately.
Tomorrow will see the Cherryatrics take on Yeppoon Seagulls (Queensland) at 1pm, then Springsure Mountain Men Oldies (Queensland) at 2.30pm.
Friday games start at 10am against Dysart Bulls (Queensland), 11.30am against Noosa Cutters (Queensland), and an additional game at 12pm against Country Crustaceans (Queensland).
Their final game is on Saturday at 1.45pm against Bayside Beavers Masters (Victoria).
“I want to acknowledge a few significant individual achievements. We have 10 of the original 2009 squad going,” Woolford said.
“They are Jamie Canellis, Brett Maxwell, Ian Close, Ray Spring, Darren Cooke, Craig Jones, Sean Casey, Simon Scott, Geoff Hill and myself.
“We also have three players making their fifth tour, who include Lee Hardy, Steve McClymont and Ted Hill, which is a terrific effort by the boys,”
Woolford said that the side also included six players who have participated in every tour, namely, Jamie Canellis, Brett Maxwell, Ian Close, Craig Jones, Geoff Hill and himself.
“Which just goes to show how much we love our Masters footy,” he said.
“We will also have another six players - all things going well - to join the 50 games milestone for the Cherryatrics at the Gold Coast in Brett Maxwell, Craig Jones, Ian Close, Jamie Canellis, Sean Casey and Stuart Norton,” Woolford added.
They will join Geoff Hill, Paul Smith and Steve as members of the 50 game club.
“We also have the pleasure of welcoming a new tourist to the squad, namely Ben Shipp.
“Ben will be an outstanding asset to the Cherryatrics - he is young, energetic and can play footy,” Woolford said.
According to Geoff Hill, the Cherryatrics are now part of the digital age with their popular website www.cherryatrics.com.au and Facebook page Young.Cherryatrics and he has urged locals to follow them through their Gold Coast adventure.
“We are extremely grateful for the wonderful sponsors that we have and I would like to thank them for their ongoing commitment,” Geoff said.
