Great game to referee between Navy Seals and Alpha with Chloe Gruber showing everyone how it’s done.
The defence from the 11-year-old was outstanding for the whole game! Well done Chloe.
Liam McLachlan was the only one to score for the whole game just sneaking past the Apha defence to score.
This was a very evenly matched game with all the youth you could imagine.
Well done guys on a great game of hockey.
Golden Oldies and Mighty Ducks were both low on players this weekend with the teams converging on the Hunter Valley (I think) for McKnight wedding.
Robyn Veness and Brandon Jurd scored for Golden Oldies against the Hornets and Zac Williams and Natasha Cosgrove scored for Hornets.
White Trash appeared too strong against DTS 1.
Plenty of goals for White Trash with Peter Lister, Geoff Palmer, Dylan Muggleton, Brendan Sheppard and Adam Hughes scoring once and Morgan Walsh scoring twice.
Jason Taylor scored a goal for DTS 1 and Zac Laybutt again showing his promise also scored for DTS 1.
Hornets and Pink Panthers certainly had a fun game with the Hornets boys just not on their game this time round!
Natasha Cosgrove had a great game for the Hornets but it was brother Luke who managed to get past the strength in defence provided by Fred Dimmick, Brendan McKay and Tracey Clark.
Di Lonnen scored the only goal for Pink Panthers and she certainly made it look easy.
As always, Nicole Holihan and Danni Johnson were very strong in the midfield and Peter Shepherd certainly held up the back line for Hornets!
The game between Mighty Ducks and DTS 2 was certainly a mix up of players with Peter Shepherd, Nathan Calvert, Geoff Palmer and Brandon Jurd scoring for Mighty Ducks and Peter Lister, Joanne Garlick and Bronte Rathjen scoring for DTS 2.
Gators and Vipers had a fast game with Angela Noon, Jake Rudd, Angus Rudd and Kyle McGovern scoring for Gators and Steele Rudd having his own score fest putting three goals on the backboard this game.
Vipers’ Robyn Veness, Kerry Edwards and Teresa Campbell scored this week in a game where the score line did not reflect how hard both teams played.
Mixed Bag and DTS 1 had a great game by all accounts with plenty of fun had by both teams.
The only person who scored was Hannah Laybutt who scored twice again this game. Well done Hannah!
There were other goals during this match but no names for the card. Sorry folks.
Gators backed up again against Mighty Ducks this time and still managed to come out on top.
Jake Rudd, Steele Rudd, Sarah Dawe, Kyle McGovern and Angus Rudd all scored for Gators, whilst Scott Tierney and Johnny Hosken scored for Mighty Ducks.
Actually, Johnny scored three times for his team, so well done Johnny. Thanks also to Kyle McGovern for swapping sides to play with the Mighty Ducks for part of the game.
What a good sport! White Trash and Golden Oldies also backing up for the second time this weekend had a fairly even game.
Morgan Walsh, Dylan Muggleton and Brendan Sheppard scored for White Trash while fill-in Luke Cosgrove scored for Golden Oldies.
According to the cards this week I am pleased Shep found the back board. Just mustn’t have been your weekend last time!
No word yet from Hockey NSW in regards to what they are willing to offer us in order to keep us but shall keep you all posted in this regard.
Looking at possible avenues for changes to the winter competition this year.
I am looking for feedback on ideas - like having a pushing comp only - or maybe just men pushing. Whether or not we swap our comp to a Sunday afternoon instead?
At this stage we are possibly looking at only a six team competition so I am interested to hear your ideas if you have any. Drop me a line at younghockey@hotmail.com I would love to hear any and all of your ideas for us to put into the mix before making any decisions.
Young Shire Council have also indicated they will erect some lights at the edge of Ground one which also opens up the possibility of a ‘during the week junior comp’ if we had the numbers.
So please, if you have any thoughts, drop me a line or speak to one of us on the committee.
Don’t forget our training night is Thursday night out at Sawpitt Gully between 6pm and 8 pm. These sessions are open to all, so hope to see you there.
