Making his move late in the race, Delamont passed all in front of him and took the lead four laps from home to record his first A-Main victory of his career.
“I suppose you could say it’s like a weight that has been lifted off my shoulders,” he said.
“We have been trying hard the last few weeks and I think our results have shown that pretty clearly.
“We have been close to getting the car parked in ‘victory lane’, and on Saturday night we came up with the goods.
“I must say it makes me feel more relaxed now we got that first win out of the way.”
Jackson worked hard for it all night after being relegated one row at the start of his heat after the officials deemed he jumped the start.
He managed to win the heat in style and race in the Pole Shuffle which improved his start and gave him the best possible shot in the final.
“I have to say thanks to dad and the crew,” Delamont said.
“It’s given me a great deal of confidence, beating those guys, considering we had four ex-Australian champions and the current champ.
“Over the last few weeks we have really come alive in the last 10 laps. It’s great to see it pay dividends on Saturday night.
“We have just been going with the same attitude week in, week out, to do our best. Even though we have this win, we know the next one will be just as hard to score. The competition will be super tough this weekend too.”
Saturday night’s win almost cements Jackson in the fifth spot for the Sprintcar Track Championship, which comes to an exciting conclusion this weekend.
Although if results go Jackson’s way, he may go as high as fourth.
Whatever happens, it certainly has been a super season for the young throttle stomper.
