The presentation night represents the culmination of the year’s results.
Trophies were awarded to age champions, runner-up and third. A number of perpetual annual awards were also awarded to encourage our young swimmers.
The awards for age champion are based on the swimmers in each age group competing in eight events over four weeks of championships which started in early February.
The championships are designed to give a variety of swimming events for swimmers to compete in both distance and sprints events, so the swimmer who competes most successfully in all of these events through a points system is selected as age champion, runner-up and third.
The combination of the events give a good result of best ability over all forms of swimming and in a variety of distance combinations.
President of the swimming club this year Felicity Crawford has been extremely pleased with the numbers this year particularly in the younger age groups.
“We have had an extremely successful season and I am looking forward to seeing all the hard work continuing into the next season of swimming with the great numbers we are currently experiencing,” she said.
“I would also like to thank all the very dedicated officials, parents and other dedicated helpers who give up their week time and Fridays to assist with club activities, judging, timekeeping, carnival entries, collation of weekly results and many other jobs.
“The YASC is a volunteer run organisation and without these people who put their hand up to assist in our club activities we would not be able to continue to run our club.”
The Young Amateur Swimming Club offers a great variety of opportunities for those looking to become involved in swimming and to gain all the great health benefits that go along with it.
They offer regular training from October through to March, Friday night competition club nights, weekend regional carnivals, Speedo Sprints and now the newly introduced local development days and the winter program.
The club is also hoping to offer a winter swimming program this year to those members who are interested in continuing to train over the winter season.
While the training won’t be as intense as during the summer season we hope by offering it, it will keep some level of fitness over the long break during winter.
In addition the club is hoping to offer a Master’s Program next season for swimmers who are wanting to compete in adult events.
There has been quite a bit of interest in getting parents involved in the competition which gives the club a real family atmosphere and is also a lot of fun to watch mum or dad compete.
