Four nominees were put forward at council’s March meeting, held in Bribbaree.
Councillor Ben Cooper was the first to suggest Kere Mayo, Rob Everdell, Steve Brill, Cheryl Matthews and Janine Hobson from the Young Sports Advisory Committee be congratulated for organising this year’s Young Sports Awards presentation night.
“They do a fantastic job. I would like to recognise their efforts,” he said.
The councillor also nominated sport awards MC Mark Foreman and the Young Cherryettes for an award.
“Mark stepped up at last notice to be MC on the night, he did an exceptional job,” Cr Cooper said.
“Hopefully he’ll do it each year for us.”
The Cherryettes were recognised for initiating a new sports event in town and hosting a regional league tag carnival on March 7 and 8.
“We’re always looking for new tourism potential in town. It shows women’s sport is going well,” Cr Cooper said.
Cr Brian Ingram congratulated the Young Harness Racing Club for another successful Carnival of Cups event on March 14.
“The attendance was the biggest I’ve seen since I’ve been with the club,” Cr Ingram said.
