It’s come just in time for the centenary commemorations of the first landing at Gallipoli on April 25, 1915.
With the grant, museum volunteers were able to purchase a new TV and DVD player to showcase a DVD of 400 photos taken at different sites during World War I by Young man Eric Dowling.
The photos were donated by his daughter Wendy Forest a number of years ago.
“It’s what all the soldiers would have seen,” secretary Sandra Jenner said.
“There are photos of Gallipoli, Simpson and his donkey and photos from Jordan, Cairo and Beersheba.”
Young Shire Council also donated money for a new powerpoint so the museum could display it in the military section.
The DVD was made about two years ago and took about a month, with Joe Kinsela narrating, Larry Wordsworth producing and Daryl Close and Brian James working behind the scenes.
“It took a very long time because each photo had to be enhanced,” Brian said.
“We had a showing of the DVD at the old Masonic Lodge (in Zouch Street) when it was finished two years ago.
“We had no where to show it separately in the military section.”
The museum has made copies of the DVD to sell for $15 each.
