In addition to the players for jackpot bowls there were two championship games completed.
Geoff Holt played Bruce Mason in a quarter–final of the club singles.
Both players had shown good form in their previous games and a close contest was expected.
This was not to be the case and after the first few ends Geoff dominated the scoring and recorded a clearcut win 31–10.
A quarter–final of the club pairs was also completed and this was a much closer contest.
In this game Dave Ward and Michael Chapman were opposed to James Freudenstein and Joe Chambers.
After six ends had been played the scores were level at 9–all.
The scores were level again at 13–all after 11 ends and also at 16–all after 14 ends.
James and Joe then won three consecutive ends to lead 23–16 before Dave and Michael won the next three ends to trail 21–23 going into the final end.
With his final bowl Michael needed to move the jack towards his team’s bowls. While he caused the jack to move as often happens in this game it did not go where he intended it to and James and Joe scored two shots to win the game 25–21.
The best margin for the afternoon for the jackpot bowlers was 12 shots for Greg Woods, Alan Gall and Kevin Porter.
In the other games John Cooper and Harold Anderson scored seven shots on their final two ends to win by 7; Ted Loader and Colin Powell scored 2 shots on the final end to win by 1; and Andrew Hutchison and Peter Slater held on to win their game by three shots despite losing the last two ends.
The jackpot of $200 was not won.
The 36 bowlers who played on Thursday enjoyed quite warm and sunny conditions.
The prize for the afternoon went to Keith Smith and Joe Bargwanna who won their game by 19 shots.
Not far behind them with a margin of 16 shots were Colin Parker and Harold Anderson.
It has been noted that in four of the games the winning margin was just one shot. (While this is definitely something worthwhile mentioning it really is rubbing salt in as a member of one of the teams that lost by double figures.)
There was no winner for the $200 jackpot.
There were just nine players taking part on Sunday morning.
Roger Allen and Bill Standen won their game by one shot and totalled 14 points.
The other winning team – Peter Berry, Joe Hennock and Mark Brownlie – scored 13 points.
Play for tomorrow starts at 1pm with entries closing at 12.30pm.
There will be a jackpot of $200.
