Undergoing both a renovation and reconfiguration to create larger rooms and suites, the Sofitel Paris Le Faubourg, on Boissy d'Anglas Street not far from the Champs Elysees, is the latest in a line of five-star Parisian hotels to be spruced up to a new level of glamour and luxury. French opera-singer-turned-designer Didier Gomez took charge of the Faubourg property's overhaul, his remarkable body of work including such fashionable clients as Yves Saint Laurent, LVMH, Christian Dior, Kenzo and De Beers (the stellar list goes on) for whom he's created everything from perfume bottles to furniture.

With that background and Gomez's brief to showcase Paris style, you can see where Le Figaro is going with the "Vogue" reference. From the Ebony Madagascar bar with its '60s dress salon aesthetic, cocktails named after famous French couturiers and the walls adorned with Cecil Beaton, Horst and Irving Penn art, to the less literal yet note-perfect symphonies of French chic in suites, the Sofitel Paris Le Faubourg reaches for the same kind of tug on the visceral fantasy strings as an aspirational glossy magazine.

But there's plenty of substance in the style, with all Sofitel's slick service and amenities details present. Add to that, a new on-site restaurant, STAY by superstar French chef Yannick Alleno and the Parisian hotel bar may well have been raised, yet again.
