Young Shire Council will meet for their annual budget meeting from 4pm today, which includes approving the draft of its 2013-2017 Delivery Program and 2015-16 Operational Plan ahead of a 28-day public exhibition period.
“The meeting is open to the public, it’s their budget,” general manager Peter Vlatko said.
“Everything is looking good.”
Residents can expect to see a rate increase by 2.4 per cent in total.
But Mr Vlatko said there are no increases to sewerage charges.
Water charges are proposed to go to a flat rate of $2.70, with a two tier tariff no longer in place.
“It was $3.69 for the higher and $2.46 for the lower, that’s no more now. It’s $2.70 flat now,” Mr Vlatko said.
The capital works marked as milestones for the town - projected to start in the next 12 months - include upgrades to Henry Miller (Burrangong), Hall Brothers, Keith Cullen and Gus Smith ovals, and Sawpit Gully as part of the Young Shire Sporting Needs Study and Strategic Plan.
It was decided this time last year to have the upgrades carried out within one year instead of 10, as was first proposed.
Other milestone projects include a $15,000 improvement to the town hall - which includes acoustic upgrades, a $5.3 million sewer conveyance main replacement and $2 million upgrades to Lovell Street and its stormwater drainage.
Another $100,000 is planned to be put aside for upgrades to the Southern Cross Hall.
This is additional to funds currently being used to repair the roof of the facility.
And some of the minor works proposed include $65,000 for upgrades to Young’s parks, gardens and reserves, installing a grease trap at the Young Aquatic Centre ($10,000), more than $4 million for urban and rural road upgrades and reseals, and purchasing a green waste site for $50,000.
