Well, finally, after a month without footy, the Under 14s Cherrypickers took to the field at Tumut on Saturday.
The boys were a bit rusty, dropping a few balls and missing a few tackles.
It took about 20 minutes into the game for Jack Rolfe to cross near the posts.
At half-time the score was 6-nil.
Second half the boys came out and put their plays into action, with tries going to Tom Jenkins and James Schiller.
James also converted all the tries.
Tumut scored two late tries but were never going to worry the boys.
Young ran out winners 18-8.
This Saturday we host the Temora Dragons.
'Pickers give Tumut the blues
The Under 10s played Tumut and came away with a 36-6 victory to keep their unbeaten start to the season going. The boys dominated from the start and always looked in control.
Tumut’s attack was smart and work in defence outstanding. Johnny Kidd was man of match. It was a great team effort and all the boys deserve credit.
Next week the Under 10s play Temora who are their biggest test.
Strong defence was the order of the day for the Young Services Club Under 11 Cherrypickers led by big strong forwards Brodie Apps, Levi Summerfield and Joey Anderson who made big inroads into the Tumut line from the opening whistle.
Abe Forbutt had his best game of the year filling in at dummy half as did Young guns, Max Jones, Nick Carroll and Riley Powderly, who are forming a great combination in the backs.
The Sing twins were at their destroying best, smashing Tumut along with Lochie Pratt. Clay Sing opened Young’s account with a great try converted by Brock.
NRL-bound Sam Graziani was next to cross the line, showing an awesome change of speed to outpace the Tumut side. Clay Sing converted, 12-nil.
Lochie Pratt then capitalised on some great lead-up work from Lockie Croker, who made a welcome return to the side to score and convert.
Young 18-nil.
The second half was much the same as the first with kamakaze forward Josh Noakes belting the Tumut side, causing many dropped balls.
Brodie Smith came on at dummy half and proved to be a handful for his opposition, laying on another try for Lochie Pratt which wasn’t converted.
Tumut managed to score late in the game to make the final score 22-6, a fantastic team effort.
On a great day for football, the Young Under 12s went up to Tumut to play in a very entertaining game.
Both teams had a good set of forwards and Young where led by Jonny Douglas and Mitchell Prest who constantly drove the ball in hard.
This led to some nice plays involving Jai Allison and Matt Noakes creating room for Boys out wide to make some yards.
Young’s defence was yet again the most pleasing aspect, conceding just eights points.
Led by Will Martin Riley Brownlie, Josh Coade and Charlie Corcoran.
Final score was 14-8.
Player of the match was Mitchell Prest.
