That’s the word from council’s planning and environment director Craig Filmer, who said up to 3550 bins will be delivered in the town’s collection area over the next two weeks.
More than 2000 bins have been awaiting delivery at council’s depot since last week and 1500 more are expected to arrive in town any day.
Mr Filmer said a promotion pack with information on the new service and collection dates - which are expected to occur fortnightly - will be delivered with the new bins.
“The new green waste service will start from June 15 with the first collection free,” Mr Filmer said.
He said council will be continuing the voucher system and that every ratepayer will still receive two free entry green waste vouchers with their rates notices.
He added that council expected most properties will have room for a third bin, despite concerns some households won’t.
“Council said it wanted every household to have a third bin,” Mr Filmer said.
“[We’ve] suggested people could place their bin in the back garden, at the side of the house or in the garage.”
The need for a green waste kerbside collection service was raised during the community consultation period when approving council’s Community Strategic Plan.
Council secured a $211,000 NSW EPA Waste Less Recycle More Grant last year to help cover costs, with the service getting the final tick of approval at council’s March meeting.
